The Weekly Donut 10/25

Get ready to indulge in all things food news...

Crushing some beers with the boys

Carlsberg, a global brewing company, is working on creating paper beer bottles and we're confused. The company unveiled two prototypes that are getting them closer to saving the environment, one drink at a time. Each prototyped bottle is made from sustainably-sourced wood fiber (which we guess is just a fancy word for thicc paper), but tested different linings assuring your beer won't seep out. Now we can feel a little better ordering our 5th beer of the night. Cheers to saving the environment boys!

Have a Coke and a Smile cuz we're saving the turtles!

Speaking of environmentally conscious bottles filled with liquids that will eventually kill us, Coca-Cola introduces the world's first bottle made with plastic from the sea. The company made 300 bottles that were made of 25% recycled ocean plastic, but this is just the beginning. Coca-Cola's goal is to have all of its plastic bottles made from 50% recycled plastics by 2030. This is great, but we're kinda surprised this hasn't been done yet. *takes a sip from a plastic water bottle we've refilled a bunch of times*

Pop(corn) Culture

When bar hopping is always a good idea

Thrillist, the media company I want to work for (hire me?), comes out with their first podcast dubbed Thrillist's Best (and the Rest). The podcast aims to find the best of the best in food, travel, and entertainment. Too bad we don't need a podcast to tell us that the best donut is at Mike's Donuts and Chicken. Listen to their first episode to find out the best US city for bar hopping.

Riiiise and shiiiine... with a mimosa

Kylie Jenner takes us on a tour of her Kylie Cosmetics' office, and we deff wanna work there (sorry Thrillist jk pls hire me). In her YouTube video, Kylie makes sure to point out everything that's pink in her office, including the pink Starbursts, pink custom M&Ms, pink *paper* straws (cuz she loves the turtles), and all the pink plates (they're just like so cute and pink). Along with all the cute pink things in the office, there is also a champaign vending machine and I want one of those for my apartment. Kylie claims she's never used the vending machine before, but like come on girl, we saw your drunk get ready video...

Not the hunger games

Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney tied the knot and celebrated with some epic food and we're just gonna assume our invite got lost in the mail. At the end of the night, Boston's Baddest Burger food truck stopped by and somehow stole the show from five-week aged leg of beef with forager's sauce. Seriously, how did Kevin from Boston's Baddest Burger get an invite before us??

Fast Food Frenzy

Uber x Cornershop

Uber, the app that takes all my money, acquires Cornershop, a grocery delivery service. That's all. We're just confused why someone would order food to their place that's not already prepared for them.

You my Chick-fil-a

A preview of Kanye West's new album Jesus Is King, includes a song called Closed on Sundays, which features our favorite fast-food restaurant. Chick-fil-a makes a huge appearance in Kanye's new song and we're not mad about it. The album is set to release today, but we'll believe it when we hear it cuz the release date has already been pushed back several times in the past. In the meantime, we'll just be over here listening to The Morning Toast's beautiful rendition of Closed on Sundays.

Mac Attack

Panera is in some hot water after a video went viral of an employee preparing the mac 'n' cheese. In the video, you can see that the mac comes in a plastic bag that is directly put in hot water then cut open and poured in a bowl to be served to the customer. We're not that bothered by this, but the internet couldn't handle it, and neither could Panera because they fired the employee who posted it. We're just begging Taco Bell employees not to show us how their food is made.

Do the Monster Frap

Starbucks introduces a new holiday Frapp just in time for ~spooky~ season, the 'Phantom Frappuccino.' The all-black Frapp with ghoulish lime slime is made using coconut milk, mango and pineapple essence, charcoal powder, and spirulina (??) extract. The drink will only be available in Europe starting October 26th.

Speaking of Europe... The Donut Queen is headed to Spain to eat some *international* donuts (NOT to get a Phantom Frapp)! The Weekly Donut will be back in your inbox the week of November 3rd.
