The Weekly Donut 12/09

Get ready to indulge in all things food news...

When your 2019 resolution was to be healthier and that totally didn't happen...

DoorDash, White Claw, Postmates, and Impossible Foods are the top 4 fastest growing brands of 2019 and we deff helped White Claw make the list. Other brands that made the list include: 100 Grand Bar (how is this candy bar even around still??), Trolli (the sour gummy worms you eat when you're high), Nesquik, Grubhub, UberEats (our go-to food delivery app), Jersey Mike's Subs (seems rando), and Kind Snacks.

Exercise? I thought you said extra fries.

A rough potato harvest season may lead to a shortage of french fries in the U.S. and I'm just glad I wasn't the one to cause this shortage. Due to cold and wet weather in the midwest this year, many potatoes were destroyed, causing potato production to be down around 6%. Honestly, we're not really upset about it cuz we should probs stop eating so many fries.

Doing a happy dance when we see snacks

An Amazon delivery man gets hyped after finding free snacks a woman left on her porch for delivery workers. Kathy Ouma (Kathy > Karen), the woman who left out the snacks with a kind note, says she does this every year and encourages others to do so as well. It's important to realize that there are people working overtime to deliver us our last minute gifts, so check out the viral video that's sure to put you in good spirits.

We have the same reaction when two snacks fall out of the vending machine

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints put our their Giving Machines for a third year in a row. The Giving Machines, which are vending machines for charity, are available in 10 locations across the world. By putting money in the machine, you get to select what you want to donate. From giving 200 meals to gifting a soccer ball, users can donate between $2-$320 to make a difference in someone's life this holiday season.

Pop(corn) Culture

This s#!t is literally bananas

A banana duct-taped to a white wall sold for $120,000 at Art Basel in Miami Beach. This piece of "art" is literally just a banana duct-taped to a wall, and we have so many questions. Like how does the buyer take this home? What about when the banana turns brown? Won't it smell? Won't it rot? Won't you have fruit flies? As if this story couldn't get any worse, apparently this isn't the first rendition of banana taped to wall, and has sold for more than $120,000 in the past. But wait, there's more... a performance artist ATE THE BANANA but do not fear, a replacement banana was then taped in its place. Sounds like these people should have put their money into the Giving Machine instead...

Sia, the singer behind Chandelier, bought everyone's Thanksgiving groceries at Walmart, but no one knew who she was at first. She told customers her name was CiCi and that she just won the lottery so wanted to give back. I'm just hoping the next time I'm at Walmart Sia will buy all of the mini-brands for me until I collect the Breyers ice cream carton.

In the controversy heard around the world, Kim Kardashian West urges everyone to heat up M&Ms in the microwave for 30 seconds. You'd think that this would make the candy melt, but the chocolate candy's shell remains hard while the chocolate is melted on the inside. Looks like we might need to get some SKIMS since we're addicted to M&Ms now.

Fast Food Frenzy

Ford runs on McDonald's

McDonald's and Ford are teaming up to make car parts out of coffee. Ford will be making headlamp housings (we don't even know what that is but assuming it's a car part) out of discarded coffee chaff from McDonald's. Chaff is the part of the bean that comes off during roasting and can be heated and mixed with plastic to form the part. Using chaff will make the production of car parts more sustainable. We feel like this is a missed opportunity for Dunkin' since America already runs on it.

Silent Night, Holey Night

Krispy Kreme reveals their holiday donut line up, and Santa is pumped. The holiday collection includes a "Santa Belly Doughnut" with chocolate Kreme-filling, a glazed "Reindeer Doughnut" with pretzel antlers, and a "Present Doughnut" filled with OG Kreme. Share the magic of the NorthPole with these adorable doughnuts. Speaking of sharing donuts, this Thursday 12/12, Krispy Kreme is running their #DayoftheDozens promo where you can get a dozen original glazed doughnuts for $1 with any dozen purchase. Sounds like I'm going to be fat this holiday season.
