The Weekly Donut 9/23

Get ready to indulge in all things food news...

I like peanuts and I cannot lie.

Doctors and scientists have developed a new treatment that may save lives when it comes to severe allergic reactions to peanuts. The new drug, Palforzia, is essentiallya capsule of peanut powder that would have to be taken daily to build up a tolerance in those who are allergic. Right now, it looks like the FDA will approve this drug by January. I wonder if I eat an Almond Joy every day for the rest of my life it'd rid me of my coconut allergy??

This is getting avo-control

Avocados' shelf-lives are getting longer thanks to Apeel Sciences, a technology company that strives to improve nature. By using a plant-based protective coating, Apeel claims that it will double the fruit's life. Kroger, a grocery store, has partnered with this start-up to put longer lasting avocados in over 1,000 of its stores in the next few months. *cue even more avocado toast pictures on Instagram*

The thirst is real

PopSockets, the thing you put on the back of your phone to hold it better, introduces PopThirst, a ridiculous product that we never wanted or needed but I'm still gonna buy one. This new tailgate accessory is essentially a koozie with a PopSocket attached to it... It's designed to help you grip your drink better to reduce spills and are we the only ones who think this is a dumb idea? Anyway, I'll take the PopThirst Can Holder Claim To Flame pattern please.

Wine Needs Replenished ~Venmo~ @Rachael-Cholak

Carson King, a college football fan who has his priorities straight, went viral after his game day sign made it on national television. The sign, which read, "Bush Light Supply Needs Replenished ~Venmo~ @Carson-King-25" has ended up earning King over $67,000, which could buy him approx. 3,350 cases of Bush Light. But instead of getting schwasted out of his mind, King has decided to donate all but enough for a single case of Bush Light to University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. To top it all off, Venmo and Busch have pledged to match his donation. Busch is bae and Carson is King. #IowaLegend #FTK

Speaking of beer...

Marriam-Webster, our go-to dictionary after Dictionary.com, adds 533 new words to the dictionary. Amongst this list includes college students' preferred tailgate beverage size: the tall boy, defined as a tall cylindrical can for beverages (such as beer) usually measuring 16 fluid ounces. We're happy the tall boy finally got the recognition it deserves in the world. Other food related words Marriam dubbed worthy enough include: matcha, royal icing, halloumi (a type of cheese), and chana (chickpeas).

And she never tells me to exercise, we always get extra fries

Lizzo put Postmates on blast after not receiving the food she ordered. In a since deleted Tweet, the singer wrote, "Hey @Postmates this girl Tiffany W. stole my food she lucky I don't fight no more." After getting backlash from her fans for snitching on Tiffany W., Lizzo did apologize in a not-deleted Tweet saying, "I apologize for putting that girl on blast. I understand I have a large following and that there were so many variables that could've put her in danger. Imma really be more responsible with my use of social media and check my petty and my pride at the door." Looks like Lizzo was actually that bitch.

Bill Maher? Hardly know her.

On a segment of his show, Real Time with Bill Maher, Bill Maher says that fat shaming needs to make a comeback to lower the obesity rate in the US. After hearing these comments, fellow comedian James Corden of The Late Late Show with James Corden, called out the ignorance of Maher's comments. Check out Corden's interview with Entertainment Tonight about why he felt the need to address what Maher joked about. FYI, we're not laughing, we're eating.

Red velvet, vanilla, chocolate in my life

Keep on #ruizing

Carl Ruiz, celebrity chef made famous from Food Network, died last night of a sudden heart attack at the age of 44. Best known for his appearances on Guy Fieri's "Guy's Grocery Games" and "Guy's Ranch Kitchen," Ruiz was the owner and chef of La Cubana, and sparked controversy when he declared the best Cuban sandwich in the US is made at a deli in NJ. Chefs around the world are mourning his loss. #RIPCarlRuiz

Fast Food Frenzy

Sweet Baby Cheesus

Pizza Hut and Kellogg's team up to bake Cheez-It pizza, and we're not sure how we feel about it, but we're deff ordering one as we type. The za, only available at the Hut, just looks like a giant Cheeze-It stuffed with cheese. Get it now at any Pizza Hut for a limited time. Our high college selves are jealous.

Shitpotle

Chipotle debuts a new menu item that still won't make us want to go to Chipotle, but if we end up there, we would get. Carne Asada, tender hand-cut steak, is available for a limited time nationwide, and the reviews are mixed. Rumor has it that their next release will be queso blanco, set to replace their current queso.

Mike's Donuts and Chicken did it first

KFC announces that they are testing a chicken and donut sandwich, and they totally stole the idea from the restaurant Mike's Donuts and Chicken and all we have to say is cluck you KFC. This isn't the first time a fast food chain has copied the Kenosha restaurant. Dunkin' (still salty they dropped Donuts from their name) released Donut Fries after Mike's did and we demand justice for Mike's Donuts and Chicken.
